Conservatives on Twitter slammed Governor Kathy Hochul, D-N.Y., after she railed against the Supreme Court ruling which overturned New York’s restrictive concealed carry firearm regulations.
After the Supreme Court issued a ruling on Thursday which struck down the state’s tough regulations regarding those seeking a concealed carry permit, a defiant Governor Hochul made a televised address to her citizens denouncing the decision.
The article goes on to state the following:
During the press conference, Hochul claimed the Supreme Court “has stripped away the State of New York’s right and responsibility to protect its citizens.” She added that the decision is “frightful in its scope” and “sending us backwards in our efforts to protect families and prevent gun violence.”
One moment of Hochul’s speech – around seven minutes in – went viral. The governor stated, “I’m sorry this dark day has come, that we’re supposed to go back to what was in place since 1788 when the Constitution of the United States of America was ratified. And I would like to point out to the Supreme Court justices that the only weapons at the time were muskets. I’m prepared to go back to muskets.”
Washington Times columnist Tim Young suggested that if Hochul believes muskets are the answer, she should let her security team give it a try.
“If Kathy Hochul’s security detail doesn’t set an example by switching to only using muskets first… then she can f— right off,” he tweeted.

Sports commentator Keith Olbermann called for the high court to be dissolved.
Olbermann reacted by tweeting: “It has become necessary to dissolve the Supreme Court of the United States. The first step is for a state the ‘court’ has now forced guns upon, to ignore this ruling. Great. You’re a court? Why and how do think you can enforce your rulings?”
Eight minutes later he revealed his newest thought: “Hey SCOTUS, send the SCOTUS army here to enforce your ruling, you House of Lords radicals pretending to be a court.”
CNN’s liberal panel blasted the Court’s decision, Fox News reported.
“You know, we know that in the United States you have the right under the First Amendment to say pretty much anything anywhere because we have freedom of speech in the United States. What the conservatives on the Supreme Court are saying is we want the Second Amendment to be a first class right like the First Amendment,” legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin said in response to the ruling. “And [they] want to be able to carry guns anywhere anytime without any sort of regulation by the government, without background checks, without restrictions on where you can take a weapon, without restrictions on how you can carry a weapon.”
From Fox News:
“CNN Newsroom” host Jim Sciutto fretted what this ruling meant for other “gun safety” laws around the country. Toobin suggested that the Court’s decision would lead to more mass shootings.
“We can’t separate this issue from what is going on in the world where, you know, we have a tremendous problem with gun violence in this country. We have mass shootings. We have 18-year-olds with access to AR-15s. And the Supreme Court is moving in the direction of saying that the government cannot regulate that traffic at all,” he complained.
This week, Toobin also attacked the Court ruling in favor of the rights of religious schools, claiming the Court was tearing down the Establishment Clause in the First Amendment.
