Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell did not know the White House possessed an advance copy of John Bolton’s upcoming book.
McConnell told the Washington Examiner on Monday that he “did not have any advance notice” that the White House had a draft copy of the former national security adviser’s book, titled, The Room Where It Happened. In a meeting with GOP senators who were “venting angrily to the White House” about a leak of the manuscript, the Kentucky Republican told his colleagues to “take a deep breath, and let’s take one step at a time,” according to the New York Times.
The article goes on to state the following:
Bolton has written a draft of a book describing his time in the Trump administration and turned over an advance copy to the White House National Security Council for officials to comb through for possible national security breaches or to flag sensitive information.
“A McConnell spokesman told The Courier Journal on Monday that the Senate majority leader ‘did not have any advance notice’ that the National Security Council reportedly had a copy of Bolton’s manuscript for weeks,” The Courier Journal reported. “McConnell was among the Senate Republicans who were ‘angry at the White House’ over the revelations about Bolton’s manuscript, according to The Times.”
“Mitch McConnell didn’t know that the Trump administration had an advance copy of an explosive manuscript by John Bolton. #MoscowMitch is FURIOUS that he was blindsided by the White House,” Jon Cooper, Chairman of TheDemCoalition, tweeted.
