Donald Trump’s top ally in the House today charged that plans to arrest the former president, possibly next week, is part of a “political persecution” meant to stall his 2024 bid for the White House.
Trump early Saturday confirmed reports that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg would seek his arrest as early as Tuesday.
According to reports, Bragg is under pressure to indict Trump on charges related to the investigation into hush-money payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016. The investigation, said the reports, is over the Trump Organization’s classification of a $130,000 payment to Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, for an alleged similar payment to Daniels.
The crime is considered a misdemeanor, but reports say it can be changed as a felony.
“This is what they do in communist countries,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) told Washington Secrets on Saturday.
She said it’s an example of liberals’ out-of-control move bring Trump and his political career down, but she said it will backfire.
“Trump will win in the biggest landslide victory if they arrest him. People are furious!” she said.
Greene is pushing the Republican House conference to investigate the targeting of Trump.
“I am pushing hard in my conference to subpoena Biden and DOJ officials that are coordinating the Manhattan DA’s office, and this fake political persecution,” she said.
“Republicans in Congress have to stand up to this, or the base will not support any Republican that doesn’t fight. This is a line in the sand,” Greene added.
In a tweet, Greene wrote, “We must bring in the Biden DOJ officials who have been coordinating with the Manhattan DA to testify. And subpoena all of it. We must end the weaponization of government power for politics.”

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has vowed to investigate the Trump probe.
“I’m directing relevant committees to immediately investigate if federal funds are being used to subvert our democracy by interfering in elections with politically motivated prosecutions,” he wrote in a Saturday tweet.
