Officials with Columbus Police Department and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation are responding to the scene of an officer involved shooting at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s hospital.

Westerville police Chief Charles Chandler told reporters that police responded to an “officer in trouble” call in the hospital’s emergency room at 2:22 p.m. on Monday.

The article goes on to state the following:

According to Fox 28, the suspect, who was transported to the hospital after reportedly passing out in a vehicle, had open domestic violence warrants and a weapon under disability warrant in his name.

The Columbus Police Department released the following statement Monday afternoon:

Law enforcement is investigating a police-involved shooting at the Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Emergency Department at around 2:15 p.m. today. The scene is secure and safe. No officers, hospital staff or physicians were injured.

Westerville paramedics transported the suspect to Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Emergency Department this morning after he was found with a medical issue.

The suspect was found to have active felony warrants through the Columbus Division of Police (CPD). Westerville police initiated a transfer of custody.

During the transfer of custody, an altercation ensued which resulted in the discharge of firearms from CPD and St. Ann’s security officers. Emergency room staff immediately attempted resuscitation. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

An additional firearm was recovered at the scene.

The Ohio Attorney General Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) is leading the investigation into the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
