Two members of the “Squad” of progressive House lawmakers raked in tens of thousands of dollars in rental income in 2021 while leveraging their power as members of Congress in an attempt to cancel rent and mortgage payments nationwide.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) collected up to $50,000 in rental income in 2021 from her Detroit property, according to her financial disclosure filed Friday. And Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) raked in up to a combined $117,500 in rental income from her four properties in Boston in 2021, her financial disclosure filed Saturday shows.

The article goes on to state the following:

Both Tlaib and Pressley co-sponsored legislation introduced in March 2021 by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MI) that would have suspended residential mortgage and rent payments nationwide during the “COVID-19 emergency” and would have forgiven all unpaid rental and mortgage debt accrued from March 2020 through April 2022.

A separate report by Fox News states that Tlaib raked in up to $100,000 in rental income during the pandemic, during both 2020 and 2021.

The report notes explains that five other Democratic co-sponsors of Omar’s rent and mortgage cancellation bill also reported earning rental income during 2021. They were listed as:

  • Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) – reported $1,167,500 in rental income in 2021
  • Rep. James McGovern (D-MA), reported earnings of $15,000 rental income in 2021
  • Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-FL) reported $2,500 rental income in 2021
  • Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) reported receiving up to $1,000 in rental income in 2021
  • Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), received up to $15,000 in rental income in 2021

“Freeze evictions everywhere. And cancel rent and mortgage payments while we’re at it,” Somalian refugee Ilhan Omar demanded in an August 13, 2020 Twitter post.

“Cancel rent and mortgage payments,” Omar demanded in December 2020, as she included information about her proposed bill.

Omar has continued to repeat the demand over and over. In August 2021 she wrote, “Prevent mass evictions and homelessness. Cancel rent AND mortgages for the duration of the pandemic.”

Tlaib tweeted in March 2021, “HAPPENING NOW: I’m joining Rep. @Ilhan Omar and fellow colleagues for a press conference on the Rent & Mortgage Cancellation Act. Our residents need help during this ongoing pandemic & this legislation seeks to provide that help to ensure our neighbors have the housing they need.”

Rep. Pressley tweeted in December 2020, “An eviction is an act of violence that has resulted in hundreds of thousands of additional COVID cases. We need to cancel rent, cancel mortgage, halt evictions & provide legal representation for those at risk of unlawful eviction. This is a matter of public health & safety.”

  1. So remember taxpayers all these laws these evil politicians are all worried about u being homeless!!! These pile of shit are out to make money off your hard work !!! Peeloser and the rest of them got their money from stealing from us !!!!

  2. An eviction is an act of violence? No,it’s a act in your rent/lease agreement used when you neglect to pay when you agreed to. Dems (socialist) love giving free stuff out as long as they don’t have to pay for it .Useless pieces of crap

  3. I knew about her renting out a house months ago. She wanted mortgages canceled. Bet she wouldn’t have canceled the rent though.

  4. How many small time landlords were financially destroyed by this government sanctioned crime?

I know one family that will soon lose their own home and the 4 rental properties that they were renting because their tenants took advantage of this ! One of the tenets even bought a boat while refusing to pay rent. They were barely holding on but, the lost rent, inflation and no government help on their bank loans will ruin them and cost them their rental property, their home, their savings and their credit!

Government at its worst! Ignorant evil politicians that are total hypocrites!
