An All-American college gymnast from Connecticut has died after suffering a spinal cord injury during a training accident.

Melanie Coleman, 20, passed away on Sunday at Yale New Haven Hospital, two days after she slipped off the uneven bars during practice at Southern Connecticut State University, according to school officials.

The article goes on to state the following:

The fatal accident occurred while Coleman was training on an apparatus that she’s worked with thousands of times, according to those who knew her.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to cover Coleman’s funeral costs.

“Melanie gained her angel wings tonight and was able to give life to others,” wrote campaign organizer Anna Andrich. “Please continue to pray for the entire Coleman family as they experience this unfathomable loss.”
