The debate over gun control is taking center stage in the Texas governor’s race after 21 people, 19 children and two adults, were killed in a mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde earlier this week.

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke made headlines on Wednesday when he confronted Gov. Greg Abbott (R) at a press conference, telling the Republican candidate that the mass shooting is ultimately “on him.”

The article goes on to state the following:

The incident, as well as a mass protest also attended by O’Rourke outside the National Rifle Association’s (NRA) annual event in Houston on Friday, has raised questions about whether the debate over how to deal with gun violence will be a top campaign issue in a state rocked by a slew of mass shootings in recent years. The Lone Star State has seen eight mass shootings over the past 13 years, according to data compiled by the Texas Tribune.

A February poll by the Texas Politics Project at the University of Texas at Austin, found that 43 percent of respondents in Texas said gun laws should be “more strict,” while 40 percent said they should either be “left as they are now” or be “less strict.

  1. Gun laws will do nothing. Why was the door left open and why did cops not enter the building? For all intents and purposes nobody was armed at the school with everything the police did and this is your result!!! It took somebody to go in there with a gun and kill the dude before he killed more children you people are about the stupidest bunch of idiots I have ever seen – do you think Kyle Rittenhouse would have waited an hour?

  2. Of course, I think they planned this. They are so dumb they think the guns shoot themselves……duh.
It is our constitutional right to bears arms. If someone was armed at the school maybe not as many people would have died. I think this makes for a good reason to allow the teachers to carry.

  3. To all u 43% out there…please answer me just one question…what law are you going to make more strict that is going to make a criminal (whom by nature DON’T FOLLOW LAWS) all of the sudden follow this one?…im waiting…

  4. Heated race? Abbott and some unemployed drunk psychopath that has never amounted to anything in life? Criminals don’t follow laws. It’s that simple. 2A supporters aren’t criminals. They shall not pay the price for the actions of criminals when democrats don’t even enforce gun laws in their own areas.

  5. UNFORTUNATELY I THINK THIS WILL BE WHERE THE REPUBLICANS ARE GOING TO LOSE, PEOPLE DO NOT LOOK AT FACTS AND THINK WITH THEIR EMOTIONS AND THIS WITH ROE VERSAS WADE IS GOING TO CAUSE THE REPUBLICANS PROBLEMS.
I DO NOT HAVE FAITH IN A RED WAVE IN NOVEMBER AND I THINK THE EVIL DEMOCRATS WILL PUSH THIS TERRIBLE
    TRAGEDY TO THE LIMIT.
I AM VERY AFRAID AT WHERE THIS COUNTRY IS HEADING AND AMERICANS HAD BETTER WAKE UP AND START FIGHTING BACK OR LOSE THE COUNTRY.
THE DEMOCRATS ARE PURE EVIL AND ARE ALREADY HAVE PLANS TO CHEAT AND WITH THE OPEN BORDERS AMERICA IS DONE FOR.

  6. I always try to remember polls are done with a few thousand. While this was an aweful event there are other issues that effect us also and are destroying the middle class.

  7. I live in Texas…its not the guns it the people who commit these crimes.

Criminals will always get their weapons, always has been this way.

We the people have a right to bear arms.

  8. Do like in Florida harden the schools with guardians more training. Not less cops less funds and no guns will do anything to help.

  9. I live in Chicago. Chicago has the strictest gun laws in the country. Do you know what else we have? The highest murder rate, too! Of course, Lori Lightfoot claims its Indiana’s fault or not having gun laws. The murders are with stolen guns. The victims are predominantly black and young. The shooters are predominantly black and young. The guns are not registered. They are not “ghost” guns….of course. The Democrats want to turn the entire country into Chicago at the risk of a real Civil War.

With that said..I am all for further vetting of those buying guns UNDER THE AGE OF 21! That seems to be the age that targets school children. A full vetting of school records, previous arrests or altercations, hospitalizations/recommendations for mental heath support or evaluation by social workers or medical staff, vetting of social media accounts and interviews with parents is something I support as well as hardening schools.

  10. Resource officer leaves for what reason
Teacher leaves door open and unlocked for what reason
Shooter enters building and shoots children
Chief of police waited to long before commanding officers to enter for what reason
Beto O’Rouke interrupts news conference while the entire population is watching
Lots and lots of unanswered questions

    • All a democratic plan. The believe you have the right to kill an unborn child up to the time of birth, and in some places up to another after birth, so why wouldn’t they plan an attack on young school children…unlocked door, police waiting for almost an hour before going in…..really….people really need to look what the demons are doing to our country

  11. This debate about gun control sickens me
I spent the first 57 years of my life as a resident of Orange Co NYS
It was near impossible or at least a long drawn out process to obtain a pistol permit
Then when issued all of your possessed pistols had to be on that permit and as far as concealed carry goes the permit was only good for hunting or target practice. Not for your own protection.Very few general carry permits are ever given
I did not try and get one there
Thought it was a waste of time.
Since NYS I have had concealed permits in the States of, W.Va Va.and currently in Florida
Those are unrestricted concealed carry permits
I currently live in the state of Texas where we are not required to have a permit to conceal carry
I have semi automatic firearms both in pistol, rifle, and shotgun
I am 70 years old with many years of training in safe handling, shooting, and concealed carrying of firearms. Many hours of hunting and target practicing
    Question
Should I have to give up my 2nd Amendment right to possess a firearm that I carry to protect myself because some sick demented crazy person carried out a horrific act of murder?
Would you better off with me carrying at an incident whiling to protect even if it meant losing my life or would you rather wait an hour for the police to engage?
And don’t tell me what I can and can not use it is my constitutional right
    Read the second amendment
