The mayor of Uvalde, Texas, is now accusing state law enforcement of orchestrating a “cover-up” in the Robb Elementary School shooting investigation as questions remain as to why police didn’t engage the gunman sooner.

Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin made the remark to CNN as the Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the May 24 attack, which left at least 19 students and two teachers dead.

The article goes on to state the following:

“I think it’s a cover-up, [Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steven] McCraw is covering up for maybe his agencies or maybe he told the story he told that you know … what do they say ‘it’s always hard when you tell a lie that you have to keep telling a lie’. I’m not saying he is lying, maybe he was misled,” McLaughlin said.

He said in the interview, “McGraw’s covering up for maybe his agencies,” referring to Col. Steven McCraw, the DPS director.

He continued, “Every agency in that hallway is going to have to share the blame. And like I said, again I’ll go back to when have you ever seen a federal or state law enforcement officer take their cues from local law enforcement.”

McLaughlin said, “When I got to that scene, there were 30 to 40 DPS officers already on-scene” and that “these families in this community, they deserve to know what happened.”

He added, “At this point, I don’t know what to believe and what not to believe.”

Moms on Demand Founder Shannon Watts tweeted Wednesday, “The new school year in Uvalde begins next month, yet Texas officials still haven’t given families impacted by the mass school shooting any answers about the massacre, and even the mayor is now worried there’s a cover-up to protect police. #txlege”

Reporter Matt Roy tweeted, “On an unrelated note, @RolandForTexas and Uvalde mayor Don McLaughlin are calling for Gov. Abbott to get rid of DA Christina Mitchell Busbee as the head of victims services in Uvalde and replace her with TXEMS.”

  1. No $hit! We knew that from day one. It was either that or the Keystone Cops were employed in TX. I hope that these families sue your assess.

  2. Why does the Chief of Police still have his job? He resigned from city council. Definitely something very fishy!

  3. Getting muddy for me. Coverup with whom, what, why??? Or was it just a catastrophic breakdown in communication🤔 Can’t each agency backtrack to find the truth? Or is the “truth” at the level that we just really don’t want to know !
