A Walmart employee allegedly killed six people inside a Chesapeake, Virginia, Walmart Tuesday night, just over three years after the massive department store chain barred customers from openly carrying handguns for self-defense.

On September 3, 2019, Breitbart News reported that Walmart issued a ban forbidding customers from openly carrying handguns, even where legal.

CNBC noted that Walmart was putting up signage at its stores, making clear that the open carry of handguns was not allowed.

According to CNBC, CEO Doug McMillon said in a memo distributed to employees in 2019, “We believe the opportunity for someone to misinterpret a situation, even in open carry states, could lead to tragic results. We hope that everyone will understand the circumstances that led to this new policy and will respect the concerns of their fellow shoppers and our associates.”

He added, “We’ve also been listening to a lot of people inside and outside our company as we think about the role we can play in helping to make the country safer. It’s clear to us that the status quo is unacceptable.”

Twitter user Shi Yan Hui tweeted Wednesday, “Despite Virginia being open-carry, Walmart forbids its customers and staff from arming themselves. At least 6 families get to ‘celebrate’ Thanksgiving without their loved ones in 2022 wondering what could have happened had someone been armed against Mr. Andre Bing.”

  1. If Walmart won’t let me open carry for protecting me and my family , they don’t care about me and I’ll shop elsewhere. I’m not getting caught un armed in case of emergency !! No thanks! I’m not crazy and I don’t want to shoot anyone but if they start to shoot me and mine I’ll be ready. Bye bye Walmart!

  2. Seve is right and I live in Va Bch and none of the schools my grandson went to have those signs up. I’ve open carried a few times I just don’t make it too obvious to avoid the pain that some Karen might inflict by ranting. I truly hate that. I’ve been behind people trying to check-out in stores and when they went to pay I could see a weapon holstered on their hip. I kinda breath a sigh of relief knowing there’s someone in the store that could have saved my life if the need arises. Northam wasn’t the greatest of Governors, but he didn’t get as aggressive on guns as Newsom and other’s have. He never tried to abolish each cities right to be a 2A Sanctuary City which the majority cities are. Little do DC Dems know I stood there with many Dems watching the vote to happen to make my city a 2A Sanctuary city and they were has happy to see it happen as I was.

  3. These are the places that the bad guys look for. Gun free zones ( only for the good guy ) the bad guys are allowed to carry them

  4. I don’t see the need to show your gun. I have a gun on me everywhere I go except for places with metal detectors. I’m ready wether you see it or not

  5. Don’t you people know how to read?? The policy is against open carry, not against carrying. You can still be armed and defend yourself and your family. They just don’t want you walking around with a gun hanging out. To me that is asking for trouble anyhow.
