A Florida woman has been sentenced to 30 days behind bars after pleading guilty to deliberately coughing in a cancer patient’s face at the height of the coronavirus pandemic in an interaction caught on video last year.

Debra Jo Hunter, 53, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault in the June 25 incident in a Pier 1 store at the St. Johns Town Center in Jacksonville, where she berated store employees and coughed on a woman who began filming the incident, WJXT, an independent TV station in Jacksonville reported.

The article goes on to state the following:

According to The New York Times, a Jacksonville judge sentenced her to 30 days in jail, which cited court records.

In addition to jail time, Hunter will serve six month probation and it required to go to anger management classes. She will also be subject to a mental health evaluation.

Heather Sprague started filming Hunter when she became angry at employees inside Pier 1. Sprague describes herself as a brain tumor patient and only goes in public with a mask on.

Being filmed set off Hunter who was not wearing a mask. She said to Sprague, “I think I’ll get really close to you and cough on you then. How’s that?” Hunter then coughs on her and leaves the store with her children in tow.

  1. Oh geez, great role model in front of her own kids. Simply just respect people who has any type of cancer. Forgive her for not knowing what she is doing.

  2. She should be assigned some community service also. I was thinking cleaning toilets in public restrooms and scrubbing floors around them. Do that for an 8-hr shift two days a week for a year.

  3. I wonder if any of the people who beat the crap out of people for not wearing a mask are being prosecuted because I haven’t seen them being prosecuted yet. In my opinion healthy people who cough on others on purpose is rude at worst and not worth 30 days in jail and a psych evaluation.

  4. She was wrong coughing but think back. How many protestors did the same thing and worse to people and are walking free. 30 days is not the right punishment for an aggravated mom.
