A House Democrat announced legislation that would deny former President Donald Trump the speaker’s gavel.

Rep. Brendan Boyle’s offering would “require that only elected Members or Delegates be eligible to serve as the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.” As it stands now, the U.S. Constitution does not require the speaker of the House to be a member of Congress, though every speaker in U.S. history has been an elected member.

The article goes on to state the following:

“The Speaker of the U.S. House is second in the United States presidential line of succession. That Donald Trump’s name would even be tossed around as a potential speaker in the people’s house should serve as an alarm bell that our current requirements need to be amended in the name of protecting our nation and our democracy,” Boyle said. “As such, our laws should mandate that the Speaker be a member of the U.S. House.”

“This legislation would establish that mandate in very clear and direct language, and it would serve as a check against those who would seek to undermine and derogate the authority and responsibilities of the Speaker’s office,” Boyle added.

Rumors have swirled in the past few months that Trump could end up being Speaker of the House, and Rep. Matt Gaetz told a crowd on July 3, “My commitment to you is that my vote for the U.S. House of Representatives will go to Donald J. Trump.”

However, Trump has brushed off the suggestion. When asked about the possibility in one interview, he just said it was “very interesting.”

In a June interview, Trump said he had heard talk about him being Speaker, but added, “It’s nothing I’ve ever considered.”

The media pounced on a comment made by GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy last month, claiming McCarthy said Trump “wants to be speaker.” McCarthy pushed back, noting the media had misinterpreted his words, as he actually said, “He tells me he wants me speaker, and I think he should be president.”

  1. Why don’t you people just do your job that we elected you to do. Trump has proven how corrupt you all are. And you all leaving Texas have just confirmed it. You all need to be fired. Trump did more for the Country than the 4 before him.

  2. Dang. They are terrified of this man. Its so funny to see them scrambling to change all the rules to keep Trump out! It really makes me like him so much more ! These swamp creatures want to keep doing what they do. It’s a shame that they can’t just do their darn jobs!!

  3. Absolutely!
Because EVERYTHING was so very much
WORSE when President Trump was involved in the management of the country and our domestic and global affairs.
Now that Demonrats and Roaches are scuttling about basically willy nilly EVERYTHING is so very much BETTER!
Says no one with half a brain and teaspoon of common sense ever.

  4. Rep Boyle you do realize it take a constitutional change to do what you propose. By tIme its ratified , IF IT EVER IS, Trump will be President AGAIN.

  5. The Speaker doesn’t have to be elected from among the representatives? I didn’t know that!

This could give us a constitutional solution to the crisis the Democrats created through their massive election fraud and both parties enabled through their misguided, craven and/or corrupt acquiescence.
We The People vote out the Democratic majority in the Congress. The Congress elects Trump Speaker. The Congress investigates and impeaches Biden-Harris. Trump succeeds them. He selects DeSantis to be Vice President. And finally, the Congress votes Jim Jordan in as the new Speaker.

  6. He can always run for the house in a state where he knows he would win so there’s that Brendan . Nothing prevents that as far as I know. If Desantis would win & we flip the house the Trump or Jordan would make a great speaker of the house and get rid on the wicked witch of the west.
