Incumbent Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) is leading Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke by 8 points among likely voters in the state’s gubernatorial race, a new poll has found.

According to a CBS News/YouGov poll released Thursday, Abbot is leading O’Rourke 49 percent to 41 percent among likely voters, despite the majority of Texas residents surveyed viewing the governor’s response to the deadly Uvalde, Texas, school shooting negatively and more than half having an unfavorable opinion of his general performance as governor.

The article goes on to state the following:

Among the 1,075 respondents to the poll, which was conducted between June 22 and 27, 79 percent of Republican voters said they approved of Abbott’s track record compared with 24 percent of Democrats, with 40 percent of independents approving and 60 percent disapproving.

A recent Quinnipiac University poll conducted from June 9 to June 13 also found Abbott had was in the lead among Texas voters, that poll giving him a 5-point advantage.

    • I am surprised Beto is not beating Abbott. Texas thinks its red but itnis a light purple with many cities and border areas a solid blue. Texas population is over 50% Hispanic if you count the illegal aliens and their anchor kids (now voting age).

This big population if Hispanic voters are reliable democrats. U will see toward the end that this race will be one by mere single digit points.

      • How wrong you are…Just 26% of the population now endorse a Democrat in Texas…If you don’t know what’s going on in Texas where I live…please don’t bring Fake News to our DML people…Mayra just want a seat that was held by democrats for 150 years…In San Antonio, another big win last year where over 50% are Hispanic like me…By the way, the only people accusing Abbott are Liberals…we the conservatives believe Abbott is the second best Governor in USA….and that is final….

  1. Abbot by 6. Real conservatives are furious that he did nothing about the border . He would lose to a better candidate

    • Well, Beto would do nothing about the border, either. He definitely would try to take Texans’ guns! Sounds like Texans are caught between a rock and a hard place (just like Kentuckians with McConnell and McGrsth in 2020 election)

    • What do you want him to do? Everything costs money and where do you want him to get it, raising taxes? You will be paying for it and then bitching about the money it’s costing.

  2. As a Texan believe me Beto will never be a Governor of Texas. We aren’t stupid.
    1. He wants open border
    2. He wants to take guns away
    3. He wears Mom jeans
    4. He needs an orthodontist

  3. Abbott is better by far for Texas than beto could even imagine to be.

I hope pissed off Texans will vote for Abbott rather than beto, or than abstaining from the governor’s slot.

Texas doesn’t need to be another Washington or Oregon, and beto would lead the state that way faster than joejoe has ruined the nation.

    • They aren’t thinking about the rural area polls in Texas and there’s a lot of them, I’m in one and all the counties around me are not for Beto for miles. Plus all of our HS graduates are informed citizens. If Beto wins it won’t be because of rural counties.

  4. If they can fake a whole presidential election faking polls is easy do not believe in either any more but I still going to vote but polls are fake Demotrash are bunch of THIEFS, cons and murderers

  5. If CBS says there’s an 8 point spread it’s likely more like 20+.
8 points is as close as they dare lie Beto up to.
Hey Beto, thanks for inspiring me, I got my AR this week.

  6. No way O’Rourke has to be losing by more then that, he is a putz who would vote for him after what biden is doing.

  7. Whoever is ahead…Republucans can not sit back. We all need to be a Stacy Abrahms and get people out to vote, vote, vote in November.

  8. Republicans not only need to get out and vote but we need to be diligent and watch the dems like hawks to minimize the cheating they are bound to do. We need to be proactive

  9. Hey dodo birds, don’t think for a minute this po💩 cannot be elected. These sick ignorant DEMONcrates will vote for the devil if on the d ballot, they think everything’s free with these corrupt clowns. Add in all the illegals that are funded by soros and the rest will be history

  10. I’m not in Texas! But I say Go Abbott! Only hope we have is VOTE all those Dems Out, and the ones running don’t let them get in…they are not for the American people! They are set on destroying our Country. With the help of God we will stop them at the ballot box! Be sure to watch them like a hawk…
