A police search is underway in a “vast” Florida preserve after the family of Brian Laundrie, the boyfriend of 22-year-old Gabby Petito, who went missing while the couple was on a cross-country trip, said his whereabouts are now unknown, too.

“Be advised that the whereabouts of Brian Laundrie are currently unknown,” an attorney for the family said Friday. “The FBI is currently at the Laundrie residence removing property to assist in locating Brian. As of now the FBI is now looking for both Gabby and Brian.”

The article goes on to state the following:

North Port Police said Saturday morning that they are currently searching “the vast Carlton Reserve,” a 24,565-acre preserve north of his home in North Port, for Laundrie.

Police said during the Saturday afternoon briefing that over 50 police officers are involved in the search for Laundrie, including FBI agents, drones, K-9 and bloodhounds.

Laundrie’s lawyer reportedly invited police to the family home for a visit on Friday evening, and told police that his client is now missing as well. Police have been wanting to speak with him about Petito’s disappearance, but he has refused to talk.

The family reportedly said their son, 23, left the house on Tuesday with a backpack and told them he was going to the Carlton Reserve, where he frequently went for hikes. They say they haven’t seen him since.

Police tweeted Saturday morning, “The North Port Police Department, FBI, and agency partners are currently conducting a search of the vast Carlton Reserve for Brian Laundrie. His family says they believe he entered the area earlier this week. More details when available.”

Saturday afternoon, police provided an update with additional photos of the search operation.

Addressing a rumor, the North Port Police tweeted late Saturday afternoon, “There are currently false reports of a body being located where we are searching. Completely fake.”

The area where officers are searching includes swamps, and reportedly, alligators.

Reporter Brian Entin tweeted, “Here is the latest interview with North Port, Florida Police about the Gabby Petito/Brian Laundrie investigation. Police stressed this is still not a criminal case – and they are looking for two missing people.”

“North Port Police say the items taken out of Brian Laundrie’s house in evidence bags yesterday were articles of Brian’s clothing. They needed clothes for the K9s. Police say the parents would only talk about the whereabouts of Brian. Attorney was on the phone the entire time,” Entin added.

  1. Yes catch this killer idiot and put him in the electric chair. And he must hiding somewhere in the woods and probably disguise himself. I hope they put pictures of him everywhere so someone can report him.

  2. Oldest trick in book… take the eyes off of gabby and do a man hunt for Brian who is probably hiding in the attic so no one can report seeing him…. fake concern by parents because they KNOW WHERE HE IS

  3. Oldest trick in book… take the eyes off of gabby and do a man hunt for Brian who is probably hiding in the attic so no one can report seeing him…. fake concern by parents because they KNOW WHERE HE IS and doesn’t want him to go to jail

  4. I hope those who are aiding him, ie: his parents all get locked up. If for nothing else than interfering with a Federal investigation. They know where he is. They let the FBI in only after he was gone and to say they cooperated. I call BS. They know, they are just trying to pull the wool over LE eyes. But trust me, they are not. LE is smarter than that.

  5. I don’t think he’s there, where his parents said he went. He has either fled the country or he went back to where he left Gabby. I think he killed her.

  6. By first refusing to speak about Gabby, Laundrie showed his guilt in her disappearance. Now, by going into hiding, he pretty much gave notice that he is guilty of killing her. His actions speak louder than words!

  7. Whatever the family say about the whereabouts of the boyfriend needs to be taken with a huge grain of salt. He’s being ‘protected’ by his family. They are not above lying for him. Meanwhile, a young woman has disappeared and not contacted her family because she cannot. She is somewhere, but the idea she is alive is fast dwindling to dwindled…

  8. Oh sure, I believe he went exactly where he said he was going. More money spent on finding a probable murderer who is ( I’m sure) no where near the area he supposedly said he was going. Is the law enforcement in FL completely stupid?
