A town in New Jersey has decided to end its effort to have a resident remove various anti-Biden signs from her property, including several that contain profanity.

The decision by officials in Roselle Park – a borough of about 13,000 residents, about 19 miles from New York City, came after the state’s chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) decided to take up the woman’s cause, reported.

The article goes on to state the following:

Dick, and her mother, Patricia Dilascio, had faced fines of $250 per day for banners with slogans such as “F— Biden,” “Joe Biden S—s,” and “Socialism S—s, Biden B-—s,” the outlet reported.

Earlier this month, a municipal court judge had ruled the signs violated a local obscenity ordinance and ordered Dick to remove the signs with the f-word, or pay a $250-a-day fine.

Roselle Park Mayor Joseph Signorello had stated that multiple local residents had complained about the woman’s “f***Biden” banner because it is located near a school and visible to young schoolchildren in the neighborhood.

The ACLU, who is normally seen fighting for cases on the left, intervened in the situation and took up the woman’s case.

After the ruling on Tuesday, the ACLU released the following statement in a series of Twitter posts:

VICTORY! The court dismissed charges for our client who was criminalized for displaying “Fuck Biden” signs outside her home. The town asked the court to dismiss the case and accepted what we’ve been saying all along: it’s your right to express dissent, even with strong language.

This outcome is a victory for our client and for all New Jerseyans. All New Jerseyans have a right to express themselves freely under the First Amendment. Roselle Park’s application of the ordinance was misguided and violated our client’s constitutional rights.

We’ll keep saying it: this type of policing and silencing of speech – which has historically and disproportionately impacted marginalized New Jerseyans – is unacceptable. And we’ll keep defending New Jerseyans’ rights to express dissent and criticize politicians. Count on it.

  1. I do not approve of public profanity, either, but I make exceptions for unconstitutional usurpations.

Surprised to see the ACLU actually supporting its core principles again…for once.

  2. Don’t like foul language, but it’s allowed on Facebook all the time. Surprised and happy about their vindication, especially by ACLU and CNN!

  3. Yes i am also suprised at the aclus stance they are not known to address anything else but LEFT. Good for them., i am.still suprised to have residents complain about SIGNS and young children while its ok for crt in schools ??? Complete B.S.
