Virginia police responded Monday to a possible shooting at a high school as students evacuate the building.

Newport News police arrived at Heritage High School as students gathered on the tennis courts outside the school building, police said.

The article goes on to state the following:

Police confirmed that they transported four or five individuals to hospital, but only two of the individuals had gunshot wounds. Doctors do not believe the gunshot wounds are life-threatening. A male, 17 was struck on the side of the face, and a female, 17, was struck in her lower leg.


The police also confirmed that one person — a male juvenile — is in police custody, and “the investigation remains ongoing.” The identity of the male juvenile was not provided.

Police told reporters that two other people were taken to the hospital after the shooting. One person had a sprained or broken arm, which happened as students evacuated the building, and the other person had asthma issues.
