Texas Rep. Chip Roy is launching a last-minute bid for House GOP conference chair, going up against Rep. Elise Stefanik.

Stefanik, N.Y., has the endorsement of former President Trump, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Calif., and Rep. Steve Scalise, La., House Republican Whip.

The article goes on to state the following:

Stefanik and Roy are expected to address their caucus during a candidate forum Thursday evening. A closed-door vote is set for Friday morning.

The Texas congressman encouraged the House “not rush this process for the sake of doing it,” as they need, “enough time for people to, you know, decide if they want to run and get into the mix and so forth.”

Roy added, “But if we’re gonna have the vote tomorrow, then I’m running.”

Unlike Stefanik, Rep. Chip Roy did not object to the 2020 election results after the Capitol riot. But he sent a letter to his House GOP colleagues railing against Stefanik’s record on Tuesday, arguing there should be more competition in the race.

“With all due respect to my friend, Elise Stefanik, let us contemplate the message Republican leadership is about to send by rushing to coronate a spokesperson whose voting record embodies much of what led to the 2018 ass-kicking we received by Democrats,” he wrote,  arguing that Stefanik isn’t conservative enough.

Roy was also endorsed by The Young Conservatives of Texas who referred to his as “one of the leading conservatives in Washington and has a proven track record of winning tight elections.”

Trump however, condemned Roy’s decision to challenge Stefanik in a statement on Thursday and wrote, “I support Elise, by far, over Chip!”

  1. This is one time I disagree with Trump. Roy is much more Conservative than Stefania. We do need a Conservative in that position.

  2. Not all of Trump’s picks were gold; most turned out to be out crap like Barr, Gorsuch, Barrett, Kavanaugh and many more. I agree we should not rush into a pick.
