The grief-stricken husband of a fourth-grade teacher senselessly slaughtered in the Texas school massacre was seen in heart-wrenching video placing flowers at a memorial to his high school sweetheart — shortly before he died of a heart attack.

Joe Garcia, 50, on Thursday morning placed a vase of red roses at a cross bearing the name of his wife, Irma Garcia, 46, who was gunned down protecting her students in the rampage at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, footage posted by KHOU-TV shows.

The article goes on to state the following:

The Garcias’ nephew, John Martinez, described his uncle’s final hours of anguish in an interview with the Detroit Free Press.

The couple’s four children are ages 23, 19, 15 and 13.

“Joe Garcia visited his wife’s memorial this morning to place flowers on a cross with her name on it. Joe is the husband to Irma Garcia. Not long after Joe visited Irma’s memorial, he suffered a heart attack and died,” announced KHOU-TV, as they shared a video clip of Garcia.

The couple’s nephew, John Martinez of San Marcos, Texas, tweeted later, “EXTREMELY heartbreaking and come with deep sorrow to say that my Tia Irma’s husband Joe Garcia has passed away due to grief, i truly am at a loss for words for how we are all feeling, PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR FAMILY, God have mercy on us, this isn’t easy.”

“My Tia Irma and Joe garcia were high school sweethearts and leave behind 4 beautiful children, their ages being 23, 19, 15 and the youngest only being 13 years old, no child should have to go through this, my heart breaks for them,” Martinez also tweeted.

In a telephone interview with the Detroit Free Press on Thursday, Martinez said, “What happened was my Uncle Joe went to go leave flowers for my Tia (Aunt) Irma, his wife, (at the school site) and whenever he got back, he sat down at the kitchen table with his entire family, and after 3 minutes, he just fell over. I’m told my mom was giving him chest compressions. It happened around 10 o’clock. I know my little brother was there.”

“They called the ambulance and I was told they couldn’t bring him back. They took him to Uvalde Memorial Hospital. I’m not sure if they confirmed his death at the house or the hospital,” he added.

Martinez wrote on Twitter, “Although it’s very hard to respond to everyone, i see a lot of your heart warming messages, the overwhelming amount of support means the world and i can’t express it enough. the world needs love and healing right now, so continue to spread it by telling your family you love them.”

In a Twitter post late Thursday night, Martinez wrote, “taking a break off social media until tomorrow, this is exhausting and i need time. Thank you to everyone who’s been showing love and support and to those who have donated. we have raised a total of $1,340,540 and we couldn’t have done it without you guys, i’m forever grateful 🤍.”
