In an interview with Fox News host Martha MacCallum on Wednesday, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Dr. Ben Carson discussed the surge of violent crime in many cities across America.

Carson noted that many of the young men involved in the incidents grew up in homes without a father-figure.

“Our society is breaking down in terms of the family values that you pass on. It’s almost ‘politically incorrect’ to talk about family values,” Carson said.

Without naming her, Carson slammed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who recently said a lot of the violent behavior is induced by people who are poor and hungry.

“Give me a break,” he said, “I grew up around poor and hungry people and they weren’t like that.”
