Former United States representative and 2020 Democratic presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke is signaling he may run to unseat Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in 2022.
While O’Rourke previously downplayed reports of his candidacy, saying that he had “no plans” to challenge Abbott, the Texas Democrat appeared open to the possibility on Sunday, when he vowed to “see this fight” of expanding voting access through in response to MSNBC’s Mehdi Hasan question about whether he’ll run for governor next year.
The article goes on to state the following:
“I’m going to see this fight through to the finish, and then after that, I’m going to see how I can serve Texas either as a candidate or supporting candidates,” Beto said Sunday, referring to his fight against pending GOP legislation in the state that he claims would endanger voting rights in certain marginalized communities.
Me: “Will you be running for governor of Texas against Greg Abbott next year?” @BetoORourke: “I’m going to see this fight through to the finish and then after that I’m going to see how I can serve Texas, either as a candidate or supporting candidates. “pic.twitter.com/1Ifgm616nr

O’Rourke attended a “voting rights rally” in Houston Sunday evening.
Looking forward to joining @BetoORourke and our local elected officials this afternoon as we all come together to have a conversation about voting right and democracy.
Sign up to attend today’s event.
