The Employment Tribunal in the United Kingdom ruled in favor last week of a Christian nurse who said she was forced into resigning from her job at a London hospital after being harassed over her cross necklace for years.

Mary Onuoha took legal action against Croydon Health Services NHS Trust after resigning in June 2020 following years of being targeted for wearing a small cross necklace that she was told posed “a health and safety risk.”

The article goes on to state the following:

After she refused to stop wearing her necklace, NHS management offered her a compromise by which she could wear it on a longer chain to keep the cross out of sight, which she also refused.

Onuoha grew up in Nigeria immigrated to the U.K. in 1988.  She then worked for Croydon University Hospital for nearly 20 years.

“From a young age I naturally always wanted to care for people – it was in my blood. All I have ever wanted is to be a nurse and to be true to my faith. I am a strong woman, but I have been treated like a criminal. I love my job, but I am not prepared to compromise my faith for it, and neither should other Christian NHS staff in this country,” Onuoha said.

“My cross has been with me for 40 years. It is part of me, and my faith, and it has never caused anyone any harm,” she also stated.

In its ruling last Wednesday, the Employment Tribunal agreed, dismissing the hospital’s claim about the “health risk” from the necklace and noted that other employees are allowed to wear hijabs and jewelry.

The report adds that financial compensation for Onuoha will be determined at a later hearing.

  1. She should have switched to the cross of healing (the symbol of medicine, the serpent wrapped around a cross) and see what they would have said then lol. Geez, that cross is even on the logo of the WHO.

  2. GO TO THE EEOC and Sue them for violation of Title VII. There is no “undue burden or de minimus cost” on the Hospital for allowing the nurse to wear her cross and is a clear violation of Title VII

  3. So glad God won in this one! 🙏🏻👏🏻
I was asked by a Morman girl that worked for ME to not wear my cross necklace as it was offensive. I was shocked and immediately told her I would NOT ever stop wearing it. It is a reminder of what our Lord sacrificed for us.

    • Wow.. Im that backsliden Christian that would have said LADY UR FACE OFFENDS ME …. PUT IT AWAY…. God understands that…

  4. Wear your cross with pride! No one has a right to prevent you from doing so! GOD BLESS YOU!
I fail to understand how a simple piece of personal jewelry is detrimental to anyones health, especially a cross! This sounds like religious persecution to me!

  5. Outstanding…. Lets see, award should be, 4 million dollars plus free medical for her n her family n a plaque saying HAVE FAITH JESUS SAVES!!! Cause u wont believe the deals people make with God when a loved one is in trouble.. God dosent do deals… FAITH BRO!!
