A cartoon episode on Disney+, aimed at pre-school students, teaches children about equity, explaining that everyone needs equal outcomes, even if they don’t receive the same treatment.

A minute and a half long, the “Learn about Fairness” episode of “Ready For Preschool” by Disney Junior, explains the concepts of equality and equity using the classic Disney characters, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto and Goofy. The episode explains that when equality isn’t enough to make things fair, equity is needed, noting that some may get help  while others don’t.

The episode begins with the four characters on a picnic, explaining that in order for things to be fun, they must be equal. Mickey gives his friends the same amount of food for lunch, explaining that equality is when everyone gets the exact same portions

The narrator sings in the cartoon, “Some of the time equality just doesn’t make things fair. Like when we are at the orchard, picking apples we can share. While some of us are short, some of us are tall, so I might need a big boost, while you need none at all. When everybody gets whatever help they need to succeed, that’s called equity.”

  1. We need to find ways to get the PragerU kids videos out there. I’m convalescing, so I was watching some of them, and they’re fantastic. One of them was, Lyla and Leo went back in time and visited with Benjamin Franklin about the American dream. it actually brought out this very question about equality of opportunity,& that it isn’t always a guarantee that everyone gets everything fairly, because there are so many factors involved in the success or lack of success. But the opportunity is there. It’s never been there under monarchies, under communism, under Socialism, under any government system, except for our constitutional republic!

  2. If you are short, you get a ladder or learn to climb the tree to pick those apples. You need to learn how and figure it out. Give a man a fish you have caught and he will eat for a day, but teach the same man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.

  3. Equity does not equal success!
It sometimes means taking from harder workers to give to those who don’t work as hard, both physically and mentally.
