Horrific surveillance footage shows the moment a Mercedes drove through a red light at full speed in Los Angeles, smashing into oncoming traffic in a fireball and killing six people including an infant, a pregnant woman and her unborn child.
The footage was filmed from a gas station overlooking the intersection of South La Brea Avenue and Slauson Avenue, in the Windsor Hills district.
The article goes on to state the following:
The black Mercedes coupe can be seen speeding towards the oncoming traffic at 1:40pm, without any attempt to brake as the lines of cars get nearer.
The speeding Mercedes-Benz crashed into about a half-dozen cars, several of which immediately burst into flames.
The horrific crash was all caught on surveillance video. Watch below:
According to the LA Times, it was originally believed that four people were killed, including an infant, plus the pregnant woman’s unborn baby. Authorities later discovered another person’s remains inside one of the burned vehicles, although they were yet unsure of the person’s age or gender.
Including the unborn baby, the death toll stands at six souls.
Another eight people were taken to the hospital with injuries. Six of those were teens, with one suffering “major” injuries.
According to Officer Franco Pepi, a California Highway Patrol spokesperson, the driver of the speeding Mercedes who caused the crash is a 40-year-old woman who is hospitalized with major injuries. The woman was reportedly conscious and speaking with investigators.
A woman interviewed by KTLA5 said she is a friend of the woman who was driving the Mercedes, and said the woman had been in a fight with her boyfriend, and had been drinking at a nearby house with friends. That interview is near the end of the video below:
One witness shared a video on Instagram of the moments following the crash. The wails of sirens are heard as rescue workers were rushing to the scene.
