Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said on Thursday that Republicans will oppose a compromise election reform proposal put forward by Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.).

“I would make this observation about the revised version … all Republicans I think will oppose that as well if that were to be what surfaced on the floor,” McConnell told reporters, referring to Manchin’s proposal.

The article goes on to state the following:

McConnell’s comments, which came during a press conference with GOP senators railing against the For the People Act, are the latest signal that the election bill will fail during a procedural vote next week due to a GOP filibuster.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has vowed to hold a vote on the bill next week, where it would need at least 60 votes to advance in the Senate.

Manchin has said he doesn’t support either the original “For The People Act” nor the slightly revised version that Democrats are presenting, which would simply give states more time to implement the provisions.

The report explains that Manchin has put forth a list of about two dozen ideas which he does support, which includes allowing for automatic voter registration through a state’s department of motor vehicles.

Democrats have vehemently opposed many states’ new election integrity laws, claiming they are trying to suppress the vote or making it harder for minorities to vote.

“I’ve taken a look at all these new state laws, none of them are designed to suppress the vote. There is no rational basis for the federal government trying to take over all of American elections,” McConnell told reporters on Thursday.

McConnell then flatly rejected Manchin’s proposals as well.

“Democrats can change the packaging, but their plan for a power-grab of America’s electoral system is still rotten to the core,” McConnell tweeted.

Stacey Abrams declared she “absolutely” supports Manchin’s election reform proposals.

  1. If Abrams supports it then it’s dirty. But I don’t trust rinos crossings over to the democrats side. I hope manchin doesn’t flip and support it
