The parents of accused Michigan school gunman Ethan Crumbley are locked up in the same jail as their teenage son, authorities said.

James and Jennifer Crumbley were arrested early Saturday and taken to the same facility as 15-year-old Ethan, who’s accused of killing four students and wounding seven other people during a shooting rampage at Oxford High School, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said.

The article goes on to state the following:

The parents were arrested hiding in an art studio in a commercial building in Detroit and charged with involuntary manslaughter for buying the 9mm handgun the teen used in the attack and leaving it unsecured.

In a press conference Saturday afternoon, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard provided additional details on the capture of fugitive parents, which took place about 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Bouchard explained that both parents and their son are now being held at the same jail, but they are each in isolation and not able to communicate with each other. They are all three under suicide watch, as a precaution, he said.

The sheriff dismissed claims that the couple were planning to turn themselves in, noting that they missed the 4:00 p.m. deadline on Thursday to do so, then withdrew $4,000 in cash from an ATM and fled to Detroit.

“We don’t wait for that when we have serious charges like felonies,” Bouchard declared. “You can turn yourself in, you can go to court, you can come to any one of our substations, but we’re going to go look for you immediately.”

“We had communication that the couple was not responding to texts or phone calls from their attorney,” he added. “We’re looking for them, if they show up, fine, but we’re not going to sit at the front desk and tap our fingers until they come in.”

The fact that they were “hiding in a warehouse in Detroit, it certainly raises my eyebrows,” Bouchard said, expressing his doubts that James and Jennifer Crumbley were really intending to surrender.

The sheriff also spoke about the horrific massacre committed at the school by the couple’s son, Ethan Crumbly.

“We have clear evidence that this was pre-meditated… and he was looking forward to it,” Bouchard revealed in a chilling statement.

During the shooting at the school, as soon as Ethan saw officers coming toward him, he put his weapon down, raised his hands and gave up, Bouchard explained. He then said, “These people are evil and cowards.”

In a heartbreaking explanation, Bouchard said the hardest thing his officers are dealing with is that when they responded to the shooting at the school, they had to run right past the dead and wounded students, and just stay focused on reaching the gunman and getting him stopped, in order to prevent more loss of life.
