Georgia gubernatorial hopeful Stacey Abrams spurned assertions that a fetal heartbeat can be detected around six weeks of gestation.

Abrams, an outspoken critic of Georgia’s “heartbeat” bill that went into effect after the overturn of Roe v. Wade in June, claimed there was “no such thing as a heartbeat at six weeks” of pregnancy, saying the sound was “manufactured.”

“There is no such thing as a heartbeat at six weeks,” Abrams declared at an event at the Ray Charles Performing Arts Center in Atlanta on Tuesday. “It is a manufactured sound designed to convince people that men have the right to take control of a woman’s body.”

Georgia’s law allows women to get an abortion until a fetal heartbeat can be detected, then abortions are only allowed in certain medical emergencies.

Abrams reportedly declared that the law should not be called a “Fetal Heartbeat Bill” because “that’s medically false, biologically a lie.”

Abrams’ comments have been met with an onslaught of outrage and mockery on Twitter.

LifeNews.com, a pro-life organization, fired back:

FALSE: Stacey Abrams claims unborn babies don’t have beating heats. “There is no such thing as a heartbeat at six weeks.”https://t.co/trzDKebZ3n

TRUE: University of Oxford Professor Paul Riley says an unborn baby’s heartbeat begins at 16 days.

Former Trump advisor Stephen Miller tweeted, “Apparently, Abrams thinks there is a vast OBGYN conspiracy where moms and dads have been going to doctors offices for decades to listen to their baby’s heartbeat when, in fact, it was apparently a prerecorded audio file.”

Republican Lavern Spicer mocked, “Stacey Abrams is 2502.857 weeks old, and I still can’t detect a heartbeat in her either🤷🏾‍♀️.”

The backlash continues.  See more tweets below:

  2. I think she will answer to God for her lies about babies not having heart beats at 6 week, some day.She knows they do, she is just out for votes from stupid women that still want to use abortions as birth control. They all will play some day.
